If you are between the ages of 8 and 119 then read this notice on the endangered status of print journalism.
On Thursday, May 24, The Times-Picayune, New Orleans’ daily newspaper, announced that it will cut back to three publications a week and a substantially reduce its newspaper staff. Newspapers nationwide have been losing more subscribers each year. Changes brought upon by Thursday’s announcement will result in New Orleans being the largest American city without a daily newspaper.
We ask our readers not to succumb to apathy and convenience and, instead, to subscribe and support your local newspaper. If this downward trend in American print journalism continues then newspapers could be lost altogether as a news medium and Americans will lose a lifeline of local communities.
