Actually Happy

country road comfortable ride
bona fide progress
wildflowers
summer sun
diamond opportunity
there’s shadows
he acknowledges them
today’s what matters
and tonight
vibrant land
limitless colors
he found the light
this wonder
his bathroom mirror screeched
and threatened
until it reached
an intolerable level
tricks do damage
he closed the box
small victories
thank everything
he doesn’t know who
sends these miracles
whoever they are
they’re prolific
it could be us
honest breath
some questions are best left

Saint George

Tottering field, shared spiral.
Picture bent the wrong direction.
Tragic disasters piling.
Terrifying addiction feeds
anxiety. Mudslide, ugly trauma
haunts my mind. Four demons,
four horsemen, eight on its side.
Blade like a boomerang.
I hit vicious. The bite of a wolf.
I step with stubborn knuckles.
Plague redacted the moon.
Catch me rediscovering magic.

From the Editor:

We hope that readers receive In Parentheses as a medium through which the evolution of human thought can be appreciated, nurtured and precipitated. It will present a dynamo of artistic expression, journalism, informal analysis of our daily world, entertainment of ideas considered lofty and criticism of today’s popular culture. The featured content does not follow any specific ideology except for that of intellectual expansion of the masses.

Founded in late 2011, In Parentheses prides itself upon analysis of the current condition of intelligence in the minds of these young people, and building a hypothesis for one looming question: what comes after Post-Modernism?

The idea for this magazine stems from a simple conversation regarding the aforementioned question, which drew out the need to identify our generation’s place in literary history.
